Throughout November and December, the Hudson Clocktower Rotary Club is celebrating Metropolis Popcorn as our Business of the Month. Brent Van Fossen bought the popcorn store in October 2020 and worked to expand its online ordering business, which proved to be a winning strategy. "The support from the Hudson community has been amazing," he said at a recent Rotary appearance. "Our online store and shipping business in the first year was up over 400 percent."

Brent is not new to the popcorn business. In 2012 he bought a popcorn store in Cuyahoga Falls after disappointing stints in the corporate world. "I decided I would never work for somebody else again," he said after being laid off from a major marketing position. "I wanted to be my own boss." So when Amaize Popcorn became available, he decided to purchase the store despite the pandemic.

Brent's entrepreneurial acumen manifested itself immediately. In addition to  building his e-commerce store, he got a food truck and now sells popcorn at Hudson sporting events where a portion of the proceeds go to the Boosters Club. He's created fundraising opportunities for nonprofits, established a popcorn club, and has broadened the scope of corporate gifts that are perfect for businesses of any size.

Metropolis Popcorn is located at 72 N. Main Street,, Unit 6 (facing Park Lane). The store is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. The Cuyahoga Falls store is located at 2164 Front Street.

Brent and his wife, Margaret, have two daughters, ages 14 and 10. We welcome them to our Hudson business community.
