PET Training - March 13 & 14 in Columbus
As our upcoming president, John discussed what he learned from the PET Training which he felt was very well organized. 270 people went through the training and he realized 1. How little he knew about Rotary and 2. How proud he is to be a Rotarian.
He talked about how Rotary was able to work with the WHO toward eliminating polio. He feels the future is bright but we must look to grow our membership and emphasize collaboration as many other clubs are doing. He gave examples of club sizes with Clocktower remaining static at around 23 members. Most clubs are struggling with membership. (Akron is down from 126 to 97 and Kent has more members than Cleveland:Kent 105, CLE 97.)
The emphasis at the conference:
1. Impact on our community. If you were joining Rotary today would you join our club? What opportunities do we have to make more of an impact?
2. Reach. How do we expand? How do we become more inclusive? How can we include younger, more diverse members?
3. Involvement. How do we enhance participation and engage old and new members?
4. Adaptation. We started as a leadership club with Leadership Hudson. We need to keep the emphasis and branch out, maybe start an Interact club.
Clubrunner NOVA (an app) will be rolled out soon and John encouraged us to download this as he feels it is very good. It will help us adapt our club to being more responsive to the needs of new members. He would also like to see us have 2 assemblies a month to better plan and adapt and take on more projects.
Discussion
Memorial Day Parade. James Hill of LH has offered us the use of his wagon for the parade. Do we go back to using a wagon and include the clocktower? Julie suggested we meet at Barlow Farm and repair the clocktower.
We will again participate in the Ice Cream Social in June.
