Mike Solosky, donor relations coordinator at the Haven of Rest Ministries, addressed the Hudson Clocktower Rotary luncheon on Wednesday, April 20. Haven of Rest was founded by Rev. and Mrs. C.C. Thomas in 1943 and has grown to become one of the largest social service agencies in the region.
Mike told the stories of several individuals who came to Haven of Rest through various paths of self-destruction but who were able to get back on their feet by going through a program that asks for an eleven-month commitment to Christ. This faith-based ministry will help anyone without charge. Haven of Rest offers long-term residence programs that last from nine months to a year. The agency also distributes clothing to about 1,400 people a month.
Mike also discussed the work done at Harvest Home, through programs for women and children who have no support. They learn to make products that are sold at the Hartville Flea Market. Women in the program learn not only sewing skills, but also business marketing, gardening and how to sell produce.
