Our last speaker of 2017 was Larry Terkel, who has had a successful business career as president of several corporations and CEO of a public company. He is currently president of Global Health Care, Inc., with offices in the United States and Mexico. Larry and his wife Susan live in Hudson, where they bought a church and founded the Spiritual Life Society and Yoga Center. Larry has taught yoga, meditation and philosophy since 1971.
Larry received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree in philosophy from Kent State University, where he teaches comparative religion.
Larry and Susan wrote a book titled Small Change: It’s the Little Things in Life That Make a Big Difference! Larry also wrote How to Meditate: Secrets to the Easiest and Most Effective Meditation Technique.
Larry spoke at length about his experiences after learning at age 19 that he was adopted. His journey finally put him in touch with his blood relatives with whom he’s been able to forge a strong relationship. His birth mother, unfortunately, was less receptive to establishing a relationship before she passed away several years ago.
Larry was a swimmer in high school – okay but not great. He didn’t swim for 40 years until he discovered $15 eyeglass goggles in a Speedo store. Now he swims in the masters class for those age 70-74. He swims the 100-yard freestyle and holds several medals including a silver medal in the 50-yard butterfly.
